If you're at least somewhat 'familiar with the techniques of self-improvement, you will know that the word EXIT is not part of our vocabulary.
However, if you are trying to quit smoking if you quit you'll be the winner. It 's been well documented that the effect of smoking, such as:
1. People who smoke usually look older with more wrinkles, than a non-smoker of the same age
2. Coughing and short of breath, yellow teeth, yellow fingers, reduced fitness and raised blood pressure.
3. Smoking Kills (do I need to go on?)
4. Women who smoke have reduced fertility, and men who smoke can suffer impotence.
There are a lot of effects, but we should not look negative, we must seek ways to stop smoking.
If you're reading this because you are really looking for help to quit smoking, for any reason, then you should know one thing.
IF YOU DO NOT want to quit smoking, is it okay. Any advice to quit smoking, and all means to stop smoking around the world will not help you.
You really need to burn (no pun intended) wants out.

You must set the date you are going to be a non-smoker, and you have to do the day that you think will be carefree.
You should write down your information campaigns and refer to them every day. Invite your friends and family to act as support to stop smoking, and try to avoid situations that you know what will make the craving for nicotine.
Whatever method you choose, to quit smoking, you are doing something that will improve the quality of life, and who knows how much better is possible.
So, for those who have decided to stop, its will be better to stop.

Quitting smoking is very hard for most people. For some, hypnosis may make things a little easier. By putting people in an altered state of mind, where they are more susceptible to suggestions, it may help with the mental aspect of quitting.
However, for hypnosis to be effective the smoker must be really want to quit. If they are not determined not even the best hypnotist will be able to help you.
Many people only know hypnosis through movies. They think of a person becoming entranced by watching an object dangling in front of their eyes. This is not how real hypnosis works. The goal of hypnosis is to suppress your conscious mind and influence your subconscious.

In this article I am going to share with you some of the specific ways Hypnotherapy can help you to stop smoking. With the smoking ban fast approaching in the UK (July 1st 2007), many people are beginning to feel the social pressures to stop smoking. The benefits of stopping smoking are immeasurable. Without question you will be much healthier and perhaps more importantly free from the control you should have felt by being at the mercy of a horrible, smelly and expensive habit.
I use Hypnotherapy, at my practice in Hertfordshire, to support clients to give up smoking in a natural way. What this means is there won’t be months of relying on expensive nicotine patches and other replacement therapies, which in my opinion, just keep the physical addiction going, longer then necessary.
When you make the decision to seek support from a Hypnotherapist to help you stop smoking, you can generally expect to experience techniques similar to those detailed in this article.
Usually, steps are taken to ensure that you are given the best possible chance of quitting. One of the ways in which this is achieved is by assessing your motivation to stop. In my experience, it is clear that you must want to stop smoking now and you must also want to do this for yourself. Generally, a therapist will help you identify whether this is the case. Clients who are not considered motivated enough should be advised to come back, when the time is right. That way you are not wasting money and we are not wasting the therapists time!
Various different hypnotherapy techniques are used to assist clients so that they are able to stop smoking. The techniques used depend on the unique needs of the client. Some of the techniques include:
Identifying and consolidating your reasons to stop smoking- there is lots of information available now days about the negative effects of smoking on the mind and body. A hypnotherapist spends time with you, supporting you in applying this information to yourself and your life. The result is that perhaps for the first time, you can appreciate that harm from smoking, is not something that happens to other people. At this stage in a hypnotherapy session you will begin to will feel the strong desire to move away from smoking forever.
Identifying the benefits and positive rewards of stopping smoking – its not all doom and gloom! It is also very important to begin focusing on what you will gain by stopping smoking and how your life will improve massively for the better. The therapist will also spend time with you, discussing and exploring the positive impact quitting smoking and remaining a non-smoker will have on your life. You will also be guided to set goals for the future. These will focus on things you wouldn’t have been able to do as a non-smoker. You will be amazed at the new options you have for relaxing, becoming more healthy, going to new places and of course spending all that extra money you will save by stopping smoking.
Hypnosis with positive suggestion. Of course, part of your stopping smoking treatment, will involve you getting to sit back and relax whilst your unconscious mind does the learning! During this process you will be guided to a deep state of relaxation, whilst the therapist also directs your unconscious mind with suggestions and metaphors to stop smoking. You will also be supported to develop positive coping strategies. Acknowledge that your smoking habit has served a purpose in the past, in that it has likely been a method for coping. Hypnotherapy and NLP techniques (neuro linguistic programming) will enable you to develop positive coping strategies that serve you in the present and future. One of the new positive coping strategies could be learning to use an anchor. If the therapist feels that you would benefit from having an anchor created, this may also be part of the stop smoking treatment session. An anchor, is basically a positive resource of emotions that you can fire off, when you need extra emotional strength to cope.
There are also several formal change techniques, which are effective for helping you to stop smoking. The most appropriate technique will depend on your unique problem. Examples include: The Swish Technique which can be used if you wish to replace a highly contextualised problem behaviour with a more positive behaviour. It works to eliminate behaviours that occur in specific situations after specific triggers. 2) Parts Integration is very useful at uncovering the positive intention of your smoking habit and dealing with incongruent behaviour and feelings. 3) Like to Dislike – This technique is based on information about how we code memories in our brain. We tend to code things we like in a different way to things we don’t like. So, its possible to recode your memory of smoking into something that you find disgusting.

For too long hypnosis has had a bad or 'difficult' press. If a person doesn't understand something they have 3 options open to them.
1) They might be sceptical and therefore save the trouble of looking further and possibly benefiting.
2) They may conclude it is dangerous and to be avoided at all costs.
3) They may spend time discovering the truth behind the hype.
If you don't know much about a topic it's easy to be suspicious. Some people assume hypnosis is akin to a carnival side show, others consider it mystic mumbo jumbo or 'mind control.' For those who look beyond the hype the truth is far more illuminating.
The most powerful tool you possess
There are potentially huge benefits for those who use hypnosis as part of everyday life. When you understand hypnosis you start to see its potential to improve human performance in the physical, emotional and intellectual realms. For me, rumour, gossip and suspicion weren't good enough.
I determined to learn all I could about hypnosis - I learned every fact and practised every technique under the sun. I took several training courses - some good, some terrible. I invested thousands of hours of devoted study to hypnosis and discovered just what is possible. I hypnotised friends, neighbours and work colleagues. Hypnosis greatly changed things for me on a personal level
How hypnosis helped me
I used to be shy. Thanks to hypnosis I can now talk to thousands at a time and can approach anybody calmly and confidently.
I used to have poor concentration and procrastinate; thanks to hypnosis I can instantly motivate myself.
I used to find physical work outs and exercise exhausting but because of hypnosis I am now in the best shape of my life.
Incidentally I also stopped myself blushing with hypnosis. Now if ever I have a difficult call or conversation coming up, something I may naturally feel reluctant to do (you know the kind of thing) I spontaneously self hypnotise and rehearse the upcoming situation feeling good, with myself remaining calm. In this way I habitually set my own emotional 'blue prints' for up coming situations. Having said that it's naturally that some people have concerns or half digested 'hand me down' ideas regarding hypnosis. A common one is the one about 'mind control.' However what does this really mean?
Why you are more in control of yourself in hypnosis
If someone expresses concerns about being 'controlled' in hypnosis what they mean is they don't want to be like a robot, an automaton that is forced to obey the every whim of the hypnotist. We can't help but influence others but we don't control them. To understand why you need to understand hypnosis better.
So what is hypnosis like?
Hypnosis isn't like a coma. It's not unconsciousness - more a subtle shifting of consciousness. In hypnosis, you can still think logically but you also have access to the 'software' of your mind so that you can update instinctive emotional and physical responses. In fact the hypnotised subject (not the hypnotist) calls the shots. When I hypnotise someone I need to go at their speed and respond to their needs and expectations. Hypnosis will give you more control in your own life because of what it enables you to do.
How can I be so sure?
Because over the decades I've seen all kinds of people, all ages and from all backgrounds turn their lives around thanks to hypnosis. When you use hypnosis for yourself it improves confidence in all kinds of ways. When you use it to change other's lives it just blows you away. This is what I mean.
When I first hypnotised someone to feel no sensation in a painful arthritic arm it was an incredible feeling. When I first cured life long phobias quickly and comfortably I was astounded. When I stopped hardened alcoholics from drinking and even got a heroin addict off the stuff and back into mainstream life again I started to feel angry that people could just associate hypnosis with entertainment.
With the aid of hypnosis I (and many people I have trained and worked with) have helped severely depressed people feel strong and positive again. The rewards and satisfactions are hard to describe. I'm going to take a stand against ignorance and short sightedness around hypnosis and here's why.
Why you need to reclaim hypnosis for yourself
Hypnosis is your birthright. It's nature's optimum learning tool. In fact to learn and perform anything well you need to experience a natural focussing of attention, a natural kind of hypnosis. To be successful hypnosis needs to be your companion and friend.

Unlike medications its side effects are purely positive - one expectant mother I worked with to feel relaxed during child birth later reported that she was also more relaxed when flying!

How To Quit Smoking Without Gaining Weight

Not everyone gains weight when they stop smoking, but the average weight gain is about 10 pounds. Weight gain is more likely when someone has smoked for 10 to 20 years or smokes a pack or more a day. Water retention may cause a deceptive weight gain of up to 5 pounds in the week after quitting smoking, but this is not a real weight gain, and your body will go back to normal.
Even if you do gain weight when you quit smoking, the health risks of smoking are far greater…you would have to gain over 150 pounds to make your health risks as high as when you smoked.
The most important components of preventing weight gain when you quit smoking are:

- To prevent weight gain at this time, you need to become more physically active. Beginning to increase your physical activity before you quit smoking may remind you how much smoking slows you down, when you have trouble breathing or start to cough during exercise.
- Becoming physically active will not only help you control your weight, but will also give you more energy, improve your health, take your mind off smoking, and help relieve the stress and moodiness that may occur as a result of withdrawal from nicotine.
- Try to do at least 30 minutes of physical activities on most days, even if it is in a few shorter increments. Physical activity does not have to be plann
- exercise; it may include taking the stairs, mowing the lawn, or playing with children.
2. Healthy eating- Improving your eating habits gradually can help prevent weight gain, as well as help you feel better as you quit smoking. But changing too much too quickly can increase the stress you feel as you try to quit smoking. Eating a variety of foods each day is a good start, and eating regularly so you never get too hungry.
- To prevent extra snacking as a result of quitting smoking, do not try to quit smoking during a stressful period. This can cause extra stress that can lead to extra snacking, especially over the holidays when more food is around, or relapsing back into smoking to cope with the stress.
3. Managing cravings- Once you stop smoking, it is important to learn how to reduce
- your cravings for both cigarettes and food. A craving only lasts about 5 minutes. If you can distract yourself for 5 minutes, the craving will usually pass.
- Replace smoking with other activities that occupy your hands and your mouth. Snack on fruit or chewing gum to satisfy any sweet cravings. Keep your hands busy with doodling, crossword puzzles, knitting, or twirling a straw, pen, or pencil.
- Drink less caffeine; although you may think it will make you feel better, caffeine can worsen the jittery nervous feeling that may accompany nicotine withdrawal.
- Get enough sleep; when you are tired, you are more likely to crave cigarettes and food.
- Remember H.A.L.T.– never let yourself get too Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired.
- Reduce tension by meditating, taking a walk or a bath, or taking deep breaths. Find something that will replace smoking as a way to relax and do it consistently.
- Get support and encouragement; talk to a friend when you get the urge to smoke; talk about something other than smoking.
- Make a list of when and where you are most tempted to smoke, and list healthy activities you can substitute when you have the urge. Try not to do things that tempt you to smoke, such as drinking or socializing in a bar, or tempt you to eat when you’re not hungry, such as bringing a bag of chips in front of the television.
- If you are struggling or anxious about trying to quit smoking,
- talk to your doctor about nicotine replacement such as nicotine gum or a nicotine patch. These can help prevent a relapse, and nicotine gum has been shown to reduce weight gain.
4. Positive attitude- As you focus on quitting smoking and healing your body, your exercise and eating goals will become easier. When you quit smoking, you can breathe and get around more easily, and nutritious foods such as fruits and vegetables taste better when you are not smoking.
- Try to stay positive, and try not to panic about modest weight gain; if you do gain weight, your healthy habits will help you lose the weight once your body gets back to normal. If you need more guidance, talk to your doctor or dietitian.
- Be confident that you are making a healthy choice! Your whole body will thank you!

Hypnosis Myth 1) All hypnosis is the same
As with anything, hypnosis can be good, bad or indifferent. The most common is old-style authoritarian hypnosis of the type "You are getting sleepy, you are feeling confident". Unsurprisingly, this sort of hypnosis doesn't work well with many people. Good hypnosis uses subtle psychological principles and advanced communication patterns.
It's like the difference between a football coach who thinks you'll perform best if he yells at you, compared with the more elegant style of a great leader who knows that to get the best from his people, he needs to understand motivation, to cajole, encourage and reward.
Hypnosis Myth 2) Hypnosis is something weird that other people do to you
If you couldn't go into hypnosis, you wouldn't be able to sleep, to learn, or get nervous through 'negative self hypnosis'. (You know when you imagine things going wrong and it makes you feel anxious? Well that's self hypnosis!)

Subliminals are words that you can't hear. Common sense says they shouldn't work, and there's no research proving that they do.

Crazy news stories, stage hypnotists and gossip have created the illusion that you lose control in hypnosis. In fact, when hypnotized, you are relaxed and focused – and able to choose to get up and walk away at any time. You choose to give your attention to the hypnotist, and you can withdraw it at any time.
